Siodach: Thanks! I suspect there will be some sashing to use up some of that E. I know it isn't the size that Judy says it will end up. After the clue today, I may decide to change my E fabric.

    Lawsonmugs: Thanks!

It just maybe that there is another block....not just formed by joining the ones we have already constructed.

there are often friendship stars in 'Mysteries by Judy' and that is a possibility with all the HST.

    Default Week 6

The mystery of that so-far-unused fabric E is over. Do or die time, ladies. Stick with your original choice or go rooting in the stash! Or if you need to go to the store and stand and look at all the pretty fabrics, trying to find the perfect E fabric, you’ll have time as this won’t take long.

I know it isn’t much work this week, but next week will take a while and also, this will give anyone who needs the time, time to catch up. But the main reason is, that if I have you do any more this week, it will ruin my surprise for next Saturday!

Please read all the instructions and look at all the pictures before cutting anything.

    As always, use 1/4'' seams.

Cut a strip of D fabric 6-5/8’’ wide, then make three 6-5/8’’ cuts – you will now have 6 blocks measuring 6-5/8’’ square. Cut these blocks in half diagonally, making 12 D triangles. Sew to 4 triangles to each of three of your star blocks as per the first picture. For each star block, put 2 D triangles on opposing sides, press, then add the other two triangles. Press carefully, the edge is on the bias and don’t want you to stretch your fabric.

From your E fabric, cut six 9-1/4’’ blocks – then cut diagonally to make 12 triangles. Sew these triangles to the outside of the star you just added the D fabric to as explained above. You have just made 3 blocks with D inside and E outside. Press and square up to 16-1/2’’.

I had made a comment in the picture of the larger E fabric about cutting the same for the gold. Hope I didn’t confuse anyone – the large gold triangles will be used wlth the next set of three xtar blocks.

From the E fabric cut a 6-5/8'' WOF, make three 6-5/8'' cuts giving you 6 blocks of E. Cut diagonally making 12 triangles. Cut the D fabric at 9-1/4'' as you did above and make the 12 D triangles. Now, take the remaining 3 star blocks and add first the E fabric triangles and then the D triangles, following directions for the first three star blocks. Press and square to 16-1/2''.

You will end up with 3 each of the 16-1/2’’ blocks as shown in the last picture. Do not sew them together.

Thank you, Judy! I am definitely going to change my E fabric -- I really don't like pink and it will be rather prominent with such large triangles. I have a nice orangy-red that would look good, but only have 37 inches. Can I get away with that or will I need the full 40"?
