Do You Want To See Where Quilts Really Come From?

Our cotton is all picked by now - has been for a while. Here's an article in our local (twice weekly) newspaper about cotton technology and the new baling method. Seems like what's new to us is already in use elsewhere.

Anyone else use "Cotton picking" as a negative comment? "That cotton picking dog got into the trash again!" I grew up with this and never thought about how strange that is until I was reading this thread! :)

I remember the cotton fields all around us growing up in Phoenix, Az..... Now, where many of those fields were, there are oceans of houses!!!! sad but true!! and that has a lot to do with the price of cotton!!! I use to love the smell of the cotton gins when they were running I do not recall the round bales, but do remember the huge packed carriers that lifted up and the huge block of cotton remained
A whole different way of farming and many different implements compared to the soybean and corn farming....

Oh, wow what memories..I chopped and picked cotton with my mom for money..worked all day for $3. a day, growing up in East Texas. She would card it and use it for her quilts that she made..I still have a set of carders...very interesting things...All of it was hard work but I didn't know any different back then..Guess that's why I love my quilting so much..
My dad grew the plants in his flower bed. The blooms are so pretty...Loved the pictures...
