He works in a dialysis unit and when they remodeled they were throwing out shelves from the charts so he grabbed them for the basement to use for our canned goods. The only thing they dont have a back but it does have dividers. He has like 7 or 8 of them. Do yu think these would work? He's willing to give me one. I'm worried about the fabric fading>
I know what you mean about fabric fading and things falling off the back when I used those baker shelves on the right in the picture. My solution was to make a cover out of the heavier decorating fabric for the two sides, back, and top and then attach it at various points to the shelves. For the front, I used an old fitted sheet that hung easily from the rods that support the front part of the shelves.

Now that I have this cabinet, I only have to cover the front. I was thinking of using a flannel backed tablecloth, with magnets sewn into the sides, as a front cover. I don't have room for a design board so this might work as a temporary board to preview things.

I think you should try the shelves.

Well, I'm glad to know that my fabric collecting habit for quilts is not at all abnormal. A quilter's mind would look at that medical files cabinet as fabric storage. Hilarious, and great eye!!

Since childhood, I've been the organizer in my family. When we used to go camping as a family for two weeks, my parents finally figured out I could pack the Suburban better than they could - two parents, six kids, one big dog, and camping supplies. Of course, the only way I knew how to get to camp for many years was riding backwards in that Suburban, sitting on top of the spare tire with the dog in my lap. :-)

I am going to start crusing Craig's List for a lateral file cabinet. What a great idea.
