I also go to several "thrift" stores in our area...The Salvation Army and Goodwill are both pricey..But I did get a turtleneck sweater for $1 or $2 a while back (it was 50% off white tickets). BUT, my favorite place is the Family Thrift Center. Wednesday is senior day with 50% off 3 or 4 different color tags on clothing and books. And the store is not too big where you get tired of looking at all the stuff. I've never seen any fabric there, though.

My local GoodWill is the same. Prices are ridiculous.... and there are hoardes of people there all the time. Can't figure out why. I rarely go there anymore.

I happen to be in a much bigger town earlier this week and visited their GW... the prices were great bargains.

I have found the same thing in thrift stores, none of those nice cotton shirts for a dollar, or other useful stuff. I thought it was just our area, but have seen the same thing you do, not much less than a regular store, or total junk.

Yippers same here. GW is the most expensive. Salvation Army has 1/2 price on one day out the week, Wednesday I think. Thrifttown and Thriftland have gotten more expensive; I use to find great bargains but not any more. Hospice in a smaller town was dirt cheap and has also caught on and raised prices but still reasonable compared to GW. Garage sales are the best!

Those prices are ridiculous. I seldom go to the Goodwill store here. But, there is an AmVets store close and their prices are not bad, plus on Saturdays all the stuff but the latest color tags is half off. I have found some good fabric deals there, plus other things too.

same here in our town goodwill puts to high of a price on their things and i heard if donated clothing isnt like perfect they throw them away i dont donate to them anymore either

I no longer give to Goodwill.

DH installs alarms for Goodwill and found out that if an item has not sold in 2 weeks it is removed from the store and DESTROYED!!!!!!!!!!! Clothing is shredded, glassware is broken, cords are cut off electrical devices etc. They say that they do that so that people can't go through their dumpster and get free stuff.

I now give to other local charities, most especially womans's shelters.

It's the same way here - absolutely crazy!!! They had a bag sale a couple of weeks ago at one - all you could stuff into a bag for $4 - but they'd dumped all the clothes into huge bins so you had to pick thru it all. I gave up!!! Another is going to add on to their building as they don't have enough room. If they lowered their prices, their stuff would move and they wouldn't need more room. What's up with this anyhow???
