I taught myself to PP using Carol Doaks' book and some had a DVD. I also use the FPP paper because it is easier to remove. I have not tried the soulable. Quite expensive. Small project would alright.

I LOVE paper piecing! I'm not that great at regular piecing - not a lot of time (just and excuse!) and I like the fact that I can make something look good without fussing with templates! Last Christmas, I made all my family (lots of them!) an eyeglass case or checkbook cover with a PP panel that was something important to them..lots of fun! If it's OK, here are some of my pieces with PP'ed parts: http://www.etsy.com/shop/mountainfabricarts

I do pp. I use two methods to quilt. My favorite is the rotary cutting method and then pp if the pattern looks too fiddly. I don't like templates at all and never have lol...but have to use one now and then if there is no other way.

There are some quilts that you can use the acrylic templates, like the drunkards path, winner's circle and I don't mind those.

I bought one by Carol Doak called "50 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars" published by That Patchwork Place. I think if you go to Carol Doak's web site you could buy it there. Carhop

I wanted to do stars and found that book and Carol on the internet. I learned to pp from that book and the accompanying video. They are fabulous designs and after learning from there, as they say,
"the rest is easy!" It is an advanced book for a beginner, but the results were fantastic and well more than worth the effort to learn. :) I believe I have almost all of her books now. I love having the patterns on my computer.
