    Nancy,
This knot just popped up a few weeks ago where my thumb attaches to my wrist and it burns like fire. I have an appointment with my doctor later this month. I'll mention it to her. I'm so sorry about your RA. I'm sure my pain is nothing compared to yours. God bless you.

My Dad had RA and soaked his hands in melted paraffin every morning for years. Swore it was the deepest penetrating heat and really helped. He had one of those foot spa thingys full of the stuff. He used DMSO and took gold shots at one time. So far my hands are fine but I have Osteo Arthritis in my feet. I use Valtoren Gel (prescpt) and love biofreeze. If I walk alot I use a tens machine at night to help with the pain. Yep, getting older is not for sissies!!!

Nett2, I wonder if that knot is a ganglion cyst. I get it after alot of hand finishing on a quilt. Very painful. Using the fingerless support gloves really helps. Takes a few days to go down. First got it years ago while taking harp lessons. Doc said yrs ago they use hold the hand down and slap it hard with the big family Bible to pop it internally..(I don't think so!)

I have that same pain in th joint where my thumb goes to the wrist. It hurts all the time but sometimes it just throbs so bad i could cry. Aspercreme does help. My Dr. said it was carpel tunnel.

I had a ganglion cyst on top of my right wrist for about 25 years before I finally had to have it removed At times I'd take a heavy book and burst it myself because I couldn't get anyone else to do it for me and it did give me relief. By the time I had it removed it was hurting all the way to my elbow. This doesn't feel like a cyst, it feels like bone on fire.
I love to hand quilt but hadn't been doing any for awhile when this popped up.

Carpel tunnel might be a blessing. They can do surgery for that but there's no cure for arthritis. Either way it interferes with our pleasure of making quilts.
