That is exciting. You get to choose what kind of fabric and pick a pattern, unlike the preprinted ones you can buy. Are you planning on handquilting this?

I'm not a hand quilter but I was thinking maybe a smaller one that I can do by hand and a larger one by machine

Where are you located? I am between Lindsay & Peterborough and there is an Amish quilt store on Hwy 36 not far from me.
It is attached to a house and they do quilts --I saw some but never ever thought to ask about whole cloth. I love them but have to use up fabric .
We could meet if you are close by !
