NM...use the pink bamboo blend from JAs. Nights cool off so need warmth but not weight during summer.

I live in Ga,not as hot as Fl, but still hot in the summer. I usually use 100% cotton, but as long as it is thin and light, don't think it would matter that much.

It really depends on where your niece lives in Florida. We live in the panhandle near the gulf coast and it can get quite cold here in the wintertime. The last two winters we had a couple of week long hard freezes. Sometimes it gets very cold in central Florida, as well. :)

When I make quilts to give away to friends or family here in Hawaii, i use flannel as my filler. But......if (and that's a big IF), I were to make one for myself, I would probably use an old sheet or maybe nothing at all. I have purchased homemade quilts from local quilters and they do not use anything at all in theirs....yes, they eventually get old and I can see what's in it. LOL

it gets cold here in Vegas in the winter so I am making quilts for my nephew with Warm and Natural batting. in the summer, he usually just sleeps on top of the comforter.

I have my AC on most of the summer and it can get cold while sleeping. I always have a quilt on the bed.

I think our blood gets thinner and we get colder when we live in a warm climate. I sleep under flannel sheets, a fleece blanket (in the winter an ellectric blanket) and a quilt with warm and natural batting.

I just made one with a flannel sheet for my son. He likes it a lot.

I'm in Houston, and it doesn't matter what batting you use. Everyone has airconditioning. And even in the South it can get cold during winter.

I am in green cove springs, just south of jacksonville, florida. It gets really cold here a few weeks during the winter. But we keep a quilt on all our beds and couches and chairs and walls...well, you get the idea lol....some of the quilts have warm and natural some just have fairfield walmart brand. And they get used...
