    You can do Rail Fence blocks - they can be strip pieced and go together really quickly

    Let me make this suggestion. instead of doing a signature block, why not use muslin and have the guests write on it as the back. they can write more, say more and write as big as they want. I did this for my mother's 90th birthday and then did a regular patchwork for the front.
    It made a good lap quilt and or wallhanging and she didn't have to look at it and see all the deaths, divorces etc etc breakups that occurred in the family in later years.

    and best of all you don't have to rush to get it finished.

    Fons & Porter had a pattern way back in the late 90's... I think it was called a graduation quilt... it was just for that kind of project! I made it for my sister, and it turned out beautifully!

    If you decide to hand out pieces of fabric to people, be sure to iron the fabric to freezer paper. Much easier to write when there is a stabilizer.

    UPDATE..... I went straight home from work last night and watched the tute 5 times, ripped 4 times.. and waa laa 4 blocks in 60 mins, then..... this morning, would you believe I got up for work early just, so I could make more!!! 6 more blocks in 20 mins. I love it I love it. If you haven't tried this block you have too. Its my new go to block when I need something in a hurry. I'll post pics. later!! Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I love this board
