Size of Embroidery Design Question

I try to think of what I might use them for before purchasing. That way, I can narrow down my choices somewhat. After having been at this for WAY longer than I have been doing quilts - I really now only purchase designs I have a specific project in mind for.

I love Embird and think it is one of the best programs for the money out there. I couldn't get along with out the Edit feature in Embird and also being able to see the design stitch out , I like being able to controll the density also resizing and adding or taking things away from the design.

I have my Babylock Elegante and I love it. I use it for both piecing and embroidery :) If I have 2 things going at once, I piece with my Featherweight

Thanks so much for your input. I have embird but it's been so long since I used it, I forget grrrrrrrrrr but I think I'll go with the medium and build my block sizes around that. Sound good?

I usually buy the size that will fit the
5x7 hoop. I use to have a machine that only made the
4X4, but I sold it and brought the brother. I make table runners and quilts using the 5X7 designs

Thanks Mary very much, I think I will take the advise and buy medium sizes. My largest hoop is 8 x 16. But I'm sure I just want it for regular size blocks for either quilts or runners :)

I learned - don't remember where - that if you change your design size by more than 20%, up or down, you should do a stitch out to see if the new size stitches out to your liking. I've found that for some designs, changing size is no problem, but for others it does make a difference. Always do a test stitch out to be sure.
