Thanks for your help!! I might stop at the shop tonight, as I have to take a friend (ex-husband!!) for surgery tomorrow!!(when the sale actually starts) I'm currently using a 30 yr old singer that's had a lot of use..hard use!! jeans, suede, even tents for cripes sake!! It's starting to clunk some, and as I get 'more mature"  I find I'd like a few features and fancy stitches (especially a threader  ). She has machines for classes so you don't have to haul your own, smooth business move..I'm hooked :D So I think I'll see if she has something I can afford (700-800 bucks..I've been saving). Probably not new, but used. Its only 4 miles away, so maint. &repair shouldn't be a problem. I'll let you know what happens. OOOOH, I'm soooo excited

I have a Phaff Varimatic 6091 and love it. I have always cleaned and oliled it myself and never had amy problems with it. I guess I have had it for over five or six years.

I did it :D :D :D I went yesterday and got a 2048!!! I spent a little more than I expected to, but its new not used and its still less expensive than I could find new for anywhere. I'm so excited, now if I can get 5 minutes to myself to play...probably not before Christmas. I can take it backto the shop for free lessons the 3rd tuesday of any month. I also got a 1/4 inch foot free. I can't wait to use it, the old machine didn't quite pull straight anymore and was just annoying enough to make peicing begin to be pain instead of pleasure

    Merry Christmas to me :D :D :D
