I wrap mine up and put it in a can or small box like a bandaide box or something.

I put my used razor blades and needles in pill bottles then discard when it's full.

I never thought of taking them to the hospital and I doubt they will take them in the states. My train of thought here..all the hospital stuff has to be disposed of "properly"...decontaminated in some way, and it costs money and time and they're always worried about legal stuff. But wouldn't hurt to ask. I think the old coffee can is a good idea, tape it shut and mark it sharp blades so the trash guys are safe. its all going to the recycle bin and eventually recycle center for shredding and reuse, but the safety of those workers can be safeguarded by doing it this way.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I don't know why I didn't think of a coffee can, or the likes, before. I have lots of pretty cans/tins, etc. that I've saved for altering (I was into paper crafts for a while, too, but that has kind of fallen by the side).

I like the suggestion of taking them to the hospital, but also wonder about whether they would accept them. The nurse in our school has trouble getting them to take her sharps, in certified container, from shots she gives students!

    Thanks again everyone!

Someone said to sharpen them by running through aluminum foil - and it works!

you could use the round mint tins that are sold by the registers at supermarkets or a pringles can.

Just be sure to label what ever you put them in with a permanent marker so that no one gets hurt. My fear has always been that a child would open a can, a jar, or something that has my broken needles, pins, old batteries, and blades in it. I tape tape tape those medicine bottles, then I mark all over it with black marker dangerous sharp items. I give them to my doctor's office in the medicine bottle (some of mine are large mouth) and they dispose of them with their sharps. Ask your doctor, it's not worth the chance of someone being hurt.

    Hugs,
    Sharon
