Two inches is my preferred width for binding.

I usually use 2" binding - I prefer it to 2 1/4 when the batting thickness allows

I use 1.75" double fold binding on my mug rugs. You will get a more narrow binding. I hop you are hand stitching to the back because it may be a bit tight. Good Luck !!

I would also suggest trying a sample square using the no iorn fold method for this narrow binding. I love do binding this way 'cause I don't have that crease in the center fold to create pleats if it isn't just right.

If you don't iron the fold it just rolls over to the back just as sweet and smooth as butter.

I cut my binding 2-1/2", fold it in half, iron it and tie it with a ribbon until I need it. I think 2" is going to be darn tight on the edges, because you need enough to cover the stitches on the back side where you sewed it on the top side. Got that one? That is a double bind though. I have never done a single binding. Good luck whatever you do. Edie
    It's still early!!!!

I always cut my binding 2 inches. Fold in half, iron, sew on front and hand stitch on back! Works every time.

mine is already cut too. It will have to work or I will have to add another strip to it and make it a two color binding. one way or another, it's going on.

Sure wish this question was posted a couple of days ago before I cut my binding strips 2" & that was because the kit called for 1 1/2" bindings & that scared me as I've only made & used 2 1/2" Bindings (yep I'm a newbie) so I'll have to go with what I have & hope I can pull it over the back without too much trouble.
