I have that same bodkin and used to use it a lot making kids clothes and doll clothes--threading narrow elastic and ribbon. We marvel at the cheap prices for those thiings but back in the day we bought them it seemed expensive--most of our money went for food, gas, and house expenses and sewing accessories were a luxury. That was a great gift from someone who treasured her sewing things. I'd also make a small hanging for her door with her name or some distinctive thing she likes to identify her room---my Mom had trouble finding her door when they all look alike from the outside.

That was nice of her, to think of you instead of giving it to a charity or throwing it away. I have a few old pieces like that and I treasure them.

Oh my!! What a nice thing to pass her special sewing things on like that to you. I wish I could go though it all with you and giggle about the sweet old things inside. I love old sewing things and have collected them in small quantities into a hat box. They are such a great collector's item for a seamstress.
Bless your heart for making her a quilt for her new surroundings. That is sweet of you.

They changed the design later. It is shorter and has a slider but it is still available for purchase. I recently found one in one of my old sewing boxes that had a $.50 price on it. I still use mine.

Last weekend I purchased a closet of rolling drawer units for $25. Found a box and bag full of embroidery floss, 90 empty bobbins, 30 wooden spools of thread, an organized box of assorted needles.

I have a bodkin just like that which I have had for years. I can't remember where I got it, probably from my mother or picked it up when I first began sewing. I guess it must be an antique, lol. How nice to get sewing gifts.

    Because they aren't complicated enough!
Lovely to receive such treasures! And your idea of making her a thank-you quilt is lovely, too.
