Ask the family to provide 100% cotton if possible. You can use blends, but they may be a bit more challenging to work with.

Teacup....nice work! I love how you did that...was it a wall hanging size or a lap quilt?

    Default memory quilt

This is a memory quilt I made for my sister with her late husband's shirts. The pattern is Sister's Choice from Bonnie Hunter's site. The 9-patches contain material from her husband's shirts; the rest of the quilt came from my stash. She says it is very dear to her.

I am finding this concept to be very strange. I have lost family members, but their clothes made into a quilt would not be sentimental to me. Perhaps I am the only one.

    hugs,

I made the 7 shirts quilt for my sister in law. I used my husband's (her brothers) shirts for the main parts of the quilt. The reason for using a loved ones clothing isn't so much for sentiment but rather the closeness that remains by knowing the family members skin was next to the fabric. In other words the essence of the loved one is still there even after numerous washings.

This is a basic 9 patch with cornerstones and slashing, with piano keys to finish. I used 75 men's dress shirts and 2" strips to make the 9 patches. In all, it has over 3700 pieces. Very fun to make.

I made Bonnie Hunters 'Smith Mountain Morning' with plaid shirts from my dad - plus additional fabric.
