When I FMQ a child's quilt I quilt their name someplace within the quilt. I just write it as part of the quilting process and it is written the same size as the rest of the quilting. When I give the quilt to a grandchild I tell them they have to find their name in the quilt. They really seem to like that and even tell people when looking at their quilt that their name is written in the quilt.

You could writing it out, size/placement etc, and embroider it, instead of quilting, as another option.
