Lazy Label made using the selvage and words taken from my Halloween panel
This is a fast easy label using selvage edge and wonder under to fuse it. Also a pinwheel block using scrap fabric from the front of the quilt makes a nice label. Anything you can dream up works perfectly.

I have had embroidery machines since I started quilting, I always make a label and hand sew it to the quilt when done. I started embroidery before I ever learned to quilt. Keeps my skill set up, plus it keeps me working with the digitalizing program that I need to use frequently or will forget how to use. LOL Printing on the computer sounds to be fun too!

I label them as they are gifted and I embroider them.

I always put on a label, with the name of the person (s) getting the quilt, the date (month and year), my name and the name of the pattern in cas anyone wants to know. I may also put on the occasion, wedding, birthday, whatever.

I've always put labels on my quilts. usually hand embroidered at first. then as I went on, machine embroidered. my most memorable one was appliqued on my funky cat quilt. the label was of a cat and a parrot on a pirate ship, all appliqued. beautiful. with all the information. some just name and date. I like to emb a border around them now.

To answer your question I've done my labels all the ways you listed. They all work. Just depends what you want for the particular quilt your labeling. What I do consistently is put the name of the quilt(if it has one). If I designed the quilt or just "crafted" it and my name and the date it was completed.

However I'm not convinced that those labels will stand up to much use, so I would prefer to use embroidery on future labels.
I print my labels on an inkjet printer on fabric treated with Bubblejet Set. My best testimonial is that the quilt that I made at birth for my now 15 year old niece had such a label, and even after the quilt was in tatters from use and washing, the label was still intact and readable.

Thank you all for your wonderful ideas. I hadn't even thought of printing my own fabric labels. I may try that.

I often use the embroidered letters on my machine to put my name, date, location on the quit binding. I especially use this for bed quilts, where I don't really want to attach a label to the back.
