I hand quilt (big stitch) on a table top. I just can not get the hang of a hoop.

Me, too. or if large, drape most on a table (can clamp it) and pull the part I'm working on off the edge.

I use a 12" wooden hoop. My arms are short and I have difficulty with larger hoops.

14" hoop works for me. I start in the center.

A 14 or 16 round hoop for me also. I always start in the middle. I have a large square hoop as well which I use occasionally.

Ditto, done hundreds this way. I baste with thread but other customers have sent them to me basted with pins.

ETA- just checked, my large oval hoop is 26". I have a smaller one that I use for smaller projects.

I machine baste in grid with water solvable thread on top and regular thread on the back. Then I hand quilt from the center toward the outer edge. It’s the best stress reliever!
