It is my sew and vac dealer that recommended the Janome. I am going to go back and spend more time looking at the different models. I like the idea of using a quilt sandwich. Great idea. Thanks everyone for all of your input. You are inspiring me to go forward sooner than I anticipated.

Pfaff has always been my favorite. I've owned several models (1209, 1212, 1215, 1217, 1471, 1475, 2140). Don't hesitate to look at older, used models. They are workhorses and if professionally serviced will last for years.

Didn't think of looking at older models. Now I really have a lot to investigate. Thanks everyone for really good input.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Bernina. I wrote a detailed review of it on my sewing room page if you are interested in why I like it so much.

    Good luck with your choice!

The top of the line Bernina which does everything sells for $10,000. I got to use one at a Bernina dealer, It does everything for you, even opens the bobbin case and brings the empty bobbin out. 99% of my quilting is straight stitch so it would be a waste for me to buy one.
