If you get the quilt top down, you can give the the quilt top for her birthday with a note that says you will finish it for them also. They will undertand. I have done that in the past.

Choose a simple pattern and you can definitely get it done. I did this top in one sitting. OK, it was a long sitting, but it was fun, and the top is huge. Yours can be half that size and you can have the top done in 8 hours. Good luck.

You absolutely can do it! Look for quilting magazine, Quick Quilts, also available online. They have lots and lots of gorgeous quilts that can be made in just a few hours... lots of shortcut tips and easy to follow patterns. I have made two in less than a week (few hours a day) each. Good luck!!! You can do it!!!!!

turning twenty type quilts take about 4-6 hours to put together, easily in an afternoon, then sandwich and quilt, a few more hours, binding, another hour or two. so it depends on your stick-to-it-ness, if you stick to it you can easily do one in a couple weeks.

A nine patch or D9P with large squares will go very quickly. I did a hand pieced top approximately 64-65" square from 9 each 18" finished blocks (9 squares per block cut at 6-1/2") with 3" sashing strips and 3x3 joining blocks last week while sitting at the hospital for DH's bypass surgery and recovery. Now to get it sandwiched and quilted.
If you do the piecing by machine you could easily do that all in an afternoon or evening. Then all you would have to do is sandwich and quilt...the part that takes me forever...

The bigger the blocks, the easier it will be! :) Turning twenty is awesome- you can get it cut and finished in one day. Then on to basting, etc... but I think you can do it!! Good luck- we'll all love to see the pics when you're done!

If you're looking for an outdoorsy theme...this one worked good for me (however...it's still a UFO)...sewing the top took very little time...then the quilting can be done around the blocks....can be made any size....
