my suggestion would be to trim them...dont chop the whole thing...

there are probably still new leaves amongst the shredded ones that are small and might have been hidden enuf to escape the worst of the damage...however....

i would live with them for as long as you can the way they are...they may still yet be feeding the roots...as they start to turn brown then take a pair of scissors and start clipping the individual leaves...yep a lot of work but they may just rejuvenate themselves by october

Mine have shreaded several times. No, they won't re leaf this year. I would trim the worst ones, and plant the whole thing in the impatience as someone suggested. Sorry. I feel your pain!

Look for a decorative fence at a rental place to put in front of the hostas, and decorate it with flowers. Shredded hostas from a storm are different than shredded hostas from neglect, so I'm sure everyone will understand. Best wishes!

I have taken torn or browish leaves off and more always come to fill in. I wouldn't take them down to the ground until you check with a garden store, but don't be disheartened. They will return.

It's not too late to do planters with geraniums for color - and set them between your "pruned" hosta for the wedding - it could be a filler as well as a decoration or use a flower of your choice, but get them going now - so your hosta won't look impish alone after they've been trimmed of the bad leaves.

I think I paid for maybe 10 different Hostas from little tiny-leafed ones to the larger bright yellow ones. Each Spring I cut the big ones in half, right down the middle, with a long kitchen knife and replant them. I've never lost one and now have almost 100. As far as I know, as long as they stay in AT LEAST over 1/2 a day of shade, they survive almost anything. I absolutely LOVE Hostas. I have yet to buy an Elephant Ear Hosta but that is next.
