When my niece got married I told them I would 'fix' their dresses but I won't do any boning. Yep, they had boning(stays). I hemmed, I took in, and shortened the halter necks.
A friend of my sons asked me one time if I still sewed - I was the only one he knew that had a sewing machine! He brought me six pair of jeans to put patches on, and he gave ma $25 gift card to either JoAnn's or WalMart to support my habit!!

My nerves are shot, I’m exhausted but I did it and it turned out well. She is beautiful and the dress is beautiful, we’ll be going to her grad so I’ll get to see her wear it with her hair and nails all done. I’m so proud of myself! I think I’ll have a bubble bath and work out the kinks from sitting at the machine all day.

I completely understand your nervousness... I had to do a little work on my granddaughter's prom dress. I was recovering from eye surgery and wasn't seeing all that well. I had to take up the straps, that had beading. It looked like it was a stip of beading.. But NO, when i started and clipped on little thread.. they started going every where! LOL So, I had to work with "invisible" thread to stablize them so I could make a cut where needed... Here I am, not seeing and working with invisible thread. It turned out just fine and I was pleased that I could help. BUT, I made it clear to my daughters that I would never do that again... I always took their dresses to a professional, and they would have to do the same. Really.. what if I had ruined it? Too much pressure... lol
