Goo Gone. I bought one and took it off before the first load was finished. The odor was so string it hit me right in the asthma and started an attack!

I rarely use any kind of softener. Liquid coats fabrics so towels don't absorb as well. Following that line of thought, when my kids were small in NH (1970s) I would put their nylon snowsuits in the washer with a full 2 cups of softener. It waterproofed the suits for snow play.

Try using an ice cube to freeze the sticky residue it'll scrape off with a putty knife --An old painters trick this always works even on super glued fingers [ don't ask how I know this ]

The dryer bar itself just snaps out by pulling the ends apart. I don't think there is a reason to remove the bar holder.

I put one in my dryer, can't say that it works very good, I still use a dryer sheet. I bet that thing has been in my dryer for 6 months or more. I'm going to try and get it off again, I hate it.
