I use them a lot. I made a bed cover for my mother out of my stepfather's shirts after he died. She and "his" cat use it almost every day.
A local thrift shop has $2 days --- what you can fit in a bag they give you for only $2; I pick up all the cotton or wool (they can be felted!) XXL shirts I can find. There's a lot of usable fabric in the larger sizes.

Yes.. Go for them.. I've used shirts on a couple of quilts.. I made a rag quilt out of flannel shirts.. I bought the shirts at thrift stores during the summer, and was able to pick, and chose the quality of the flannel.. Since the shirts were used, I didn't have to worry about them shrinking, or running.. They went into the wash with hot water when I brought them home.. I now have tons of scraps, and will probably be able to make a couple of string, or crazy quilts..

Thanks for the link on cutting up the shirts. I bookmarked it. I think you can do the same thing with any cotton clothing (dresses, skirts, etc). In these days and times, not only is it financially responsible to re-use, but it's environmentally "the right thing" to do. Nothing wrong with new fabric either, but re-purposing is a good thing too.

Here's one I did for my son. You'll find that most men's shirts are made of high quality cotton...just feel the fabric when you make your selection. I couldn't stop touching some of the shirt fabric in this quilt!

They are great in quilts. I went to a yard sale once where a man was selling bolts of men's shirt 100% cotton fabric. His wife custom made men's shirts but had recently passed away. I got several bolts to use for backing (each from 45" to 54" wide). When I measured all the fabric out getting ready to wash it averaged 10 cents a yard and was in perfect condition. Did a happy dance
