Dyson all the way! Expensive, but worth it.

Dyson here, too. Multiple animals and multiple surfaces. Love that it switches so easily from different height carpets to tile, wood, etc. Extension hose easily reaches to the top of the stairs to clean those. Very long extension hose and attachments, hand attachments. You name it, it has it. I have the Animal. Was at a friend's house once for a Rainbow demo --- the saleswoman spilled the dirty water all over the place when it slipped out of her hands. She didn't make any sales that day.

I can answer in one word: Dyson!!! I have two--a big one for the carpeted area upstairs and one that I believe is called the Dyson Ball Slim, which was replaced with the Dyson Ball. I'm in my 60's and have had about every brand out there, but none of them were even close to removing dog hair and dirt and dust like the Dysons do.

I checked the Dirt Devil website and I can get the screw for $1. I guess that is what I will do for now, but I think I might start a cash envelope for a Dyson Animal in the very near future.

Got a new rainbow a year ago and love it. We do use a small vacuum in the sewing room but the rainbow is how I shampoo my carpets, etc.

They are expensive. But I bought mine from QVC when it was a TSV and there were 5 monthly payments and free shipping. Theirs wasn't the lowest price, but it was very close. And, the monthly payments really helped out, and it was paid for each month.

I have a Kirby and a Rainbow. I perfer the Rainbow. Its lighter and has a long hose so I can get along the baseboard, corners, etc.

Since I had pergo installed I only vacuum an area rug and the bedrooms now.

I have a Dyson too and so love it! It's the best vacuum I have and will ever own. My DBF bought it during the Black Friday sales last year at Target. If you can wait till those sales you'll save a bundle!
