I have been wanting to make one with the 1 1/2" squares forever. I had a large amoupnt of them cut and just kept collecting. This was when I found out about being allergic to the chemicals in the fabric so I gave them all away.
Now, I prewash my fabric and started collecting again, but I collect the 1 1/2" strips.
One member on here told me a good faster way to make them is to sew several 1 1/2" strips together and cut them at
1 1/2" strips. You need several different sets, then you could sew those strips into blocks and then the blocks together. The matching of the corners seems like it would be easier because you are doing shorter areas at a time! Doing it this way would obviously give you duplicates, but you sew the blocks with different strip sets to make them look different.
There is also a swap on here for 1 1/2" squares for more variety!

I think using different versions of the same fabric is fine. No one is going to notice because they will be seeing different designs. And even if you should happen to "duplicate" a square, as long as they are widely scattered in the quilt, so the eye does not bring them together when scanning the quilt, believe me, they won't notice. And anyway, it's your quilt. As far as I know, the "Quilt Police" have not issued any hard and fast rules on this one!"

there is a postage stamp quilt challenge going on now at http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-144197-1.htm. and there is a regular 1.5" stamp square trade that happens about 4-5 times a year. the current one is at http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-142366-1.htm. but as a general rule, it is your quilt so you make it the way you want. i decided that my postage stamp quilt in progress will have some dups in it. and again i said my quilt so my rules.
