I feel strongly that fabrics should be pre-washed. This is not practical with jelly rolls, so don't prewash any fabrics you use with the jelly rolls.

Welcome to the world of quilting. We hope to see your work as it grows.

Welcome from the friendly state of Alabama. The main reason I found for washing quilt fabric is the fact that they bleed colors sometimes. I usually wash mine in white vinegar and salt. I am sure the members of the board will help you chose which is best.

Welcome! I don't pre wash and I've quilted for nearly 40 years now. Should have bought stock in Color Catchers years ago, though, as I use those for laundry and quilts, and include a piece of the box and a couple in a baggie when I give a quilt to someone. You'll love this board - there are SO many wonderful folks here to learn from and be inspired by!

Welcome to the message board. Everyone else has given you very good advice. Just want to let you know that there really are no quilt police, so have fun and don't worry.

Congratulations on becoming part of the quilting world. I am a wash first person, EXCEPT when it's strip cuts or small squares, I would wash after the quilt was finished with a color catcher, although I have yet to use them from what I've heard on QB they are very helpful and I could be using them in the very near future. I just finished a quilt top with 3" strips and 3" squares, so I did not wash the fabric first. I am a compulsive "matchy" person, so it was quite a challenge for me to just randomly pick up the "pieces" and make a quilt. It was a nice diversion from my normal quilts and I'm quite pleased with the results. Happy quilting. I know that for me quilting is my link to sanity in my crazy world.

Welcome from Florida. There is so much that you can learn from the wonderful women (and men) on this board. Don't be afraid to ask questions...someone here nearly always knows the answer or can give a good educated guess. As others have said...start building your stash while you (probably) get a discount. When you can't deal with a problem...walk away and start fresh later or check with the board members for help. Enjoy your new about to become ADDICTION.
