Thanks, everyone. Think I will not bother. The security software came free (for 6 months) with the iPad, but I am just not seeing a reason to install it -- especially since I will be using it mostly for entertainment. It's not as if I will have secret business data on the thing!

For those of you who are down on Best Buy, I was the same way. If you haven't been in one of their stores within the last year or so, though, you should stop in. All of the sales people have been through a lot of training, so they are actually very helpful now! Plus they have free classes on the iPhone, iPad, Windows 8, etc. There was a big turnaround a couple of years ago when the founder bought back the company; all of the stores have been redesigned. I learned a *lot* by stopping in several times and asking questions until I finally understood what it was I wanted.

As others have already mentioned, it's not necessary, however, I don't install anti virus on my mac products because I am concerned about it slowing down my devices, which is why I abandoned the Microsoft PC technology years ago.

Apple products do not need antivirus software. Have been an Apple user since 2005, and no issues. If you ever get a message that says something like "suspected attack site" It will have a button that says "get me out of here!" Click it! Never open a link inan email, always type the address in the search box yourself. Enjoy your new toy! It took me a short time to learn and I am a slow learner if that helps. If 'best buy' sold you antivirus, get your money back.

I have had an iPad for three years. Apple products do not need virus protection as far as I know.

The Mac's do need antivirus software. So as long as you do the updates, you should be good. I've had my iPad for 5 years and have never had any problems. At least that's what I was told at Apple. My best advice is to stop at an Apple store and ask them.

I do suggest that you download the Adblocker app though. Makes a WORLD of difference when on the web!

Ditto what Cindi said. I asked at BOTH best buy & the Apple store. Told me the same thing. It's built so that you don't need an additional one b/c everything you look at / download gets run through the Apples software and if it lets you in / on or you see it then it's been checked & cleared. Now ENJOY!

That's what I was told when I bought mine last month. Had to have my granddaughter help me set it up (is that a sign of getting old?)

The guy at the Apple Store Genius Bar told me I didn't need any antivirus on my MacBookPro or iPad at this time.

Cindi- thank you so much for the info about Adblock. I just downloaded it on my IPad and IPhone5c.
