I bought the smartek through amazon but it wouldn't heat up. I tried it in three different outlets. I sent it back. I may try again.

It does have to be sitting just right on it's base. I know I didn't get mine "clicked" in one time, and it didn't heat up. Not sure that is what your problem was. Anymore I check the light to see if it is on and thus is "sitting" right. I continue to really like mine. I haven't used the steam part since I got it (Christmas gift) but I am not sure I will. My spray bottle of water and I do just fine.

I purchased the Panasonic cordless with the sole plate that is shaped like a football last October at the Houston International Quilt Festival. The company had it on sale for $99, but also had a $10 off coupon, so I got it for $89. It has a retractible cord in the base and it's own carry case, which can be put on while the iron is still hot. Unfortunately, it will power down when you don't use it, but only takes seconds to heat up once you push the button. You can use it as a steam iron, but I just keep a spray bottle of water on my ironing board.

I have a Norelco corded/ cordless that I have had for years. It also self-cleaning. I don't remember how much I paid for it, but it couldn't have been very expensive. I have a back up, still sitting in it's box, waiting for this one to quit. I think I will only have a corded/cordless model from no on.

I just ordered the Amazon cordless iron, also. I kind of collect irons. It will be nice if it works right. It's so cheap!! I also have Amazon prime and it will be here Wednesday!!

This is the one I have... Panasonic 360 Freestyle... it works very well. Doesn't get super duper hot but I find it okay.

I may re order another one. I couldn't get the light to come on no matter how I jiggled it. And even with the plug connected - and I didn't want to have one I had to mess with every time and wonder if it would work. Maybe mine was just defective. I'm still interested.

I have had my Panasonic cordless for about 2 years now and it still works like a champ. If it broke I'd buy another one just like it.
