I think you were right to re do it on your own. When your work goes out your door everyone she knows will see it. No one will know the borders were too long. But they will know the quilting looks really bad. For me that is worth my time in removing the borders cutting down and re applying. She tried to fix it once. Obviousely she can't. So I think you did the right thing for yourself. And sometimes it is "all about you".

You went the extra mile. Seems to me that it is very important to you that the customer ends up with a quilt of which she can be proud. With your efforts which I'm sure were time consuming, hopefully, she will be appreciative.

When you present her with a beautiful finished quilt, why would she complain? She may not even realize what you did.

Just a thought. If you aren't able to get the borders on correctly, how about asking your LA if he/she would put the borders on for you. You furnish the fabric cut to correct widths, and you pay her for the time it takes to get them on correctly. ? ? ? ?

The longarmers I do business with, would have never gone to such extreme "to make it look nice". You are the exception!

God Bless your big heart. Having medical issues can be very upsetting and distracting and you fixing to make it a nice quilt will I am sure thrill her.

personally, I have to applaud you on this generous fix. Just how much did you trim off the inside border? I bet I wouldn't even notice a few missing inches but then I don't make quilts to fit on beds perfectly like some people do.

Yes it is always best to call but I would be thankful to you for being diligent in your work and doing your best to remedy an unruly fabric.

Just be honest (" I didn't know what I was thinking by not calling you before I adjusted the material. It just wasn't playing nice.") Keep it simple and offer her a free panto design on a future quilt. Let us know how it goes for you.
