for those unhappy with their 'yellow' rulers... i wrote about this in 2012 and was surprised to find the post in a Google search for fluorescent laser cut rulers today... http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...ml#post5476856
i can still find a few in searches but they are difficult to find... i'm not sure why... it's my favorite ruler. i only have a long one but even wrangle that around on small pieces because it is so easy to see.

I have rulers with only black lines, I didn't know they were hard to find.

I like the Omnigrid mats that have a nice light gray blank on the back.

Rulers, I've got many kinds and shape........but here's one that I bought that I absolutely love and use every time I cut. (I saw it in use when watching one of Bonnie Hunter's quilt cam episodes on YouTube and had to have it.) It's a Jr. Read Easy Ruler by the Wonder Ruler folks. I have the 6-1/2 x 14 size. The numbers are larger and the increments are printed for every 1/4 inch, i.e., 1/4, 1/2, 3/4. Easy to use and with the large numbers it's great as we get older and it's harder to see those tiny little things. Here's a link to the page with all three of their Easy Read Rulers. Check out the other Wonder Rulers on their site as well.

(By the way, I'm not a sales rep or affiliated with this company in any way. Just wanted to let you know about a great product.)

Once in awhile when I need to really see the line, I use 1/4" tape and place along side the line

I learned sev yrs ago from this group that you can insert a new needle into the machine by putting it through a short piece of straw to hold it while you tighten the screw. I do it that way & it works.

I'd love to be able to put thread on the top next to the regular spool and it would go straight through the bobbin and not have to have little bobbins to put thread on! I agree with the yellow rulers...my eyes aren't what they use to be and I really have to look for the markings. I also agree that the needle and foot could be closer to the front of the machine. I feel like I am wasting time working with automatic threaders or having to have something to hold the needle with to change it out. I lost the top part of a broken needle down in the mechanism one time and it took me forever and a pair of tweezers to find it and get it out! I also agree that a woman had nothing to do with the design of the sewing machine. I don't see why someone can't 'invent' something from all these suggestions!

I third it!! Would never ever own a machine with a drop in bobbin. If I ever need a new machine, top loading drop in bobbin would be a deal breaker for me.

My list of tools I'd like to have would include a sewing room that I didn't have to share with the guest bedroom
