my travel machine is the one that gives me some grief--I just forget how to use it! So I always keep my manuals close by and that one's actually travel with me cause I've needed it more than once.

Now, that's a clever way to remember! Thank you!

SAK658........I know exactly what you are saying............seems like I don't remember things as well all the time..its NOT that we are old at 72(my age too) but its just that we have SO MANY things to remember , the older we get, the more we have learned, so the more we have to remember.................and everything is filed in my computer brain, the problem is that everything is filed under MISCELLANIOS............

According to Nova Montgomery (FW Expert) Schmetz needles will fit and stay inserted in a FW.

You're welcome! I'm glad it helps.

I've never had a properly inserted needle fall out of a machine. The only time they come out is if I'm having a "wimpy" day and don't tighten the needle clamp properly. I've used Organ, Schmetz and vintage Singer needles in my featherweights with no problems at all. Right now, I'm using the Organ Topstitch Titanium coated needles - the same ones that Superior sells but Organ branded instead of Superior branded. The only needles I recommend against is the cheap dollar store, etc needles. Seriously, if no one will put their name on the needles, I won't put them in my machines! I've had poor quality needles cause skipped stitches, shredded thread and all sorts of mayhem!

No, don't buy Singer needles. Singer products just "ain't what they used to be". Schmetz are still good but since they moved manufacturing from Germany to India I got a couple bad needles in a pack for the first time ever a couple years ago. Now I use Organ needles and buy them them in bulk.
