I started using these for marking when using my rulers and have found they do wash out. I always color test on a scrap of fabric I am using to make sure it will come out but have had no problems so far. I did find that the red and orange markers are a little harder to remove (requires 2 wash cycles) but they did come out. The biggest problem I have had is if you rest marker on fabric to firmly it will saturate more color into fabric so I have learned to have a light touch and not let marker rest on fabric even for a nano second.

I have used the markers for a long time. Love them. Since I wash my quilts, I have never had a problem. But, along with the All-free detergent I add some Oxy Clean. Marks come out every time.

I have been using them for about 2 years now. I iron, starch, use hairspray when I am using the pounce chalk in some places ... markers in other places - all on the same quilt … leave for weeks on end, and they always wash out. I have used them on cotton, silk and denim … never had a problem.

I love them. When I first start cutting out a project I cut a square of each fabric I am using and mark all the colors on it. And I use a very heavy touch, sometimes going over each line several times. I leave that on my ironing board, and when I am pressing blocks I press that square. It’s not unusual for it to get pressed 20 - 30 times. I wait until I am ready to mark my quilt before I wash the marked squares. I never prewash fabric and I always wash my quilts when finished. Using this square shows me what I can see best on the fabrics and which one washes out the best. Usually the only problem I have is deciding which one I see best. This method also lets me change markers for the different fabrics.

Thought I would add to this thread since I just had an issue with the orange marker washing out of my latest finish. I made a scrappy log cabin so there were a variety of "tan" colored fabrics. The other half of the log cabin was darker, so dark that the black marker was the best choice for that side. I marked the dark fabric with black and the light fabric with orange. The black washed out of everything perfectly. The orange however did not. It was out of most of the tan fabrics, but there was one in particular it did not. I don't pre-wash my fabrics. I was gifted most of them and I think the person who gave them to me was a pre-washer so I can't say for sure. I am guessing the fabric that retained the marker hadn't been pre-washed. That would seem to be the only reason since it washed out of the others. After the 2nd wash in regular laundry detergent I decided I had to try something else. Rubbing alcohol did not work. I ended up mixing some Oxyclean detergent in water, the taking a toothbrush and lightly scrubbed just the affected areas, then let the quilt sit for a couple of hours. That did it! What a relief. I washed the quilt for a 3rd time with the Oxy clean detergent. I hear over and over to always make sure to test mark your fabric, sometimes it's not practical in the case of a scrappy quilt. Do you really test every. single. piece. of fabric? Me, probably not. Will probably just take my chances again.

I use them all the time and have never had a problem washing them out. That said I always try them on my fabric before I mark just to make sure. I have used the orange and red with no problem but usually try to use other colors before using them. You will like them and they are inexpensive compared to other marking pens.

I used a red to mark some quilting designs. It faded, but didn't come out in the wash. I sprayed it generously with Spray 'n Wash, washed it a 2nd time and, whew, it came out.

Do you use fine line or broad to mark with? What color do you use on black fabric? And thank you equw for this thread.
