Your colors are fine. I have few rules I follow but this is just what I do, I don't think there are rules in the scrappy.
I won't put the same fabric right next to each other and try not to put them in the same block if I can help it.
I do a lot of starching and pressing. When I do a scrappy strip quilt and I square up each block.
I try to make the last piece on each corner a larger strip because when you sew it in both directions you lose 1/4 inch on each side and if you use a small strip, you can almost lose the fabric in the seam. Most of the scrappys I've done I control the color shades but I'm doing an off the wall one now and I love it. Your is looking good. show us more when you get more done.

Looks good to me. One of these days I'm going to start one of these. The only control I'm planning on doing is to separate my strips by light, dark, children's fabrics and possibly keep flannel separate. Not sure yet though. I have lots of saved strips, but probably not enough for any of my categories. :)

I am doing a scrappy quilt similar to this and am making it 10.5". It seems to be a good size to work with. I am sewing my strips to a piece of muslin as the foundation. It seams to be working good. I agree with quiltE a larger square might be easier.

Looks perfect to me- keep going!
I think the hardest part of doing a scrappy quilt is the part where you pick strips at random and put them together.

I love it! Although I think I would make my squares a bit larger so when it is trimmed, it will still be a nice size.
