The 1 that looks like a half circle w/ a rod across, I believe is a hoop for quilting the edges of a quilt. I have one.

You slip the canvas into the split sides and twist the round dowels until your surface is taught and then you screw the metal nuts till they are tight. As you complete the section you are working on, you loosen it, twist and start needle pointing on the next section. I thought quilting would be easier...it is NOT just much bigger and different.
