Hoover Wind Tunnel - 17 years old and going strong. It has tremendous suction, but a few plastic parts have broken, but not until it was 15.

Dogs: A Siberian mix and a Border Collie/Lab. The little one sheds long silky BC hair like a Lab. Yikes!

I have a Oreck. It's lightweight and I love it.

I have a Heavy Duty Commercial Sanitaire. I bought it at a vacuum speciality shop. It will suck the gravel off of a highway! I have never had a vacuum that cleans like this one. It is usually sold to hotels, should last my lifetime. Cheaper than a Dyson.

I LOVE my animal Dyson. 3 Labs, 1 Pug, 1 long-haired cat. The extra $$ was/is worth it.

Check eBay if you want a Dyson. I sold mine there as I hated it. I prefer a vacuum with a bag, thank you! I had the original "Animal" but if I were going to buy one today I'd get the "ball". I found mine to be too big and clunky for the size of my home. It was heavy and hard to maneuver. When I tried to use that feature of taking off the hose so I could do things high up, the vacuum would fall over most of the time.

I've also replaced all my carpeting with laminate and a few area rugs so a lightweight canister that I picked up at Sears does the job just fine.

I have an Oreck. Love it. Lightweight. Great prices on ebay too.

Used a friend's Dyson, man are those things heavy!

I have a Dyson and 2 giant, long-haired dogs. While it picks up everything, everytime I empty the canister I also must unwrap the dog hair from the floor brush. It usually takes me longer to pull the dog hair off that round floor brush then it takes me to vacuum the floor.

What is the secret? Do I have the wrong Dyson model?
The floor brush can be lifted out of the way when you don't want thread or hair tangles.

I had a Dyson at my old little house and loved it. We moved to a bigger house a few months ago and it has a central vac. Will someone tell me what is so great about a central vac? The hose is a mile long and really wide in diameter. I would much prefer my Dyson, but my DH thinks this vac is great. I think it's his love affair with anything with a bigger motor.
