Ditto -- this is what I use. I use W&N for table runners, thought since I also put warm dishes on them.

I use warm & natural's poly(thin). I don't use cotton because when washed it will shrink and give mats and tablerunners a wrinkly look(nice for quilts, but not these things). Actually this is the only time I will rinse my fabric before using so it does not shrink after washing either...or if I have any on hand I will use thermolan (I think that is what it is called)-used for quilted clothing...very thin and very flexible.

I don't worry about "hot dishes"--these are only for show, not go......

I think the "trick" is the quilting--lots of quilting to make the place mat lay flat and somewhat stiff. Best of luck.

I like Thermore......it is very thin. I use it in wall quilts, placemats and table runners.

The artist who does my long arm quilting gives me scraps of batting, Warm and Natural, which I piece together to make batting for small projects. Works like a charm. froggyintexas

Sometimes warm & natural. I also like fleece - it's not the fleece you use for garments etc but is a type of batting that is quite flat and a bit dense. As a side note, I always pre-shrink W & N by soaking in the machine, spinning out the water and machine drying because I don't want the puckers. For some quilts that is a desirable look but not for placemats and I usually don't want it for quilts either. Just a personal preference.
