I googled the question "Is Kona cotton muslin?" and up popped this thread from Robert Kaufman addressing this subject -

    http://www.swatchandstitch.com/all-a...na-cotton.html

Interesting to say the least. Now you've heard the facts from the 'horse' s mouth'

Thanks for the link! In case anyone doesn't want to read through to find the one paragraph that mentions muslin:

Not to be confused with Kona Cotton, Kona Premium Muslin is a high thread count muslin exclusively produced in Pakistan. Kona Cotton Solids, on the other hand, have never been produced in Pakistan, and are currently being woven and dyed in Indonesia and Thailand at mills that are capable of achieving the Oeko-Tex Standard 100. While we have discontinued production in China and Korea, some bolts may still bare those Countries of Origin on the label.

I've used muslin both in quilt blocks and as a foundation for blocks. I use a higher quality for the front side of a quilt. I don't know the brands, but I buy the one that feels right. I don't use muslin on the back of quilts, because I prefer to use a darker color for backings so it doesn't show dirt as well.

Muslin is interchangable with regular cotton fabric. Check the weave as mentioned before, not to loose or the look you are looking for is lost.
