I use the Frixion pens only to mark seam lines. I used it to mark quilt lines on a white fabric and it stained the fabric. It removed after ironing, but left a permanent shadow. I have also had bleaching problems with them on solid fabrics. They have their place, but for me it is only in the seam allowance. It is back to chalk for me.

I have had no problem getting the red out. The only thing I would say is to toss a Shout Color Catcher in the tub with the fabric especially with a lot of red. I went into a blind panic once when all the white in my quilt turned pink. It all rinsed out, but now I make sure to add a Color Catcher for my own peace of mind. It is the yellow that I have to scrub the most to get out. I used it thinking it would be easiest to get out even though it's the hardest to see. Not so.

I love the Frixion pens. I experimented with the washable markers and a bunch of other marking items. I did a presentation to my quilt guild on marking methods. With several different methods the blue seemed to sometimes have trouble washing out.

In a 100 years quilts with any marking lines will be thrill someone's heart. Same as finding vintage quilt now with pencil lines or old newspaper still left in. I really don't care what happens to my quilts decades from now. If it gets worn out ruined maybe one of my greats will want to make another just like great great grandmother!
