Just shoot me the next time I select black as a background color....

Dina, I use black a lot and my best advice is natural daylight. If you need to work at night use as much light in your area as you can, especially something like an Ott daylight lamp. I also have the bendable light attached to my machine so I can direct the light exactly where I need it. The kitties look wonderful, just keep going one at a time.

What if you lightly dust the black pieces with something pale that will wash out? Do you have one of those stencil pounces? I think if you pounced the edges you're working with, that might help make them more visible.

I'm not sure where the problem is exactly. Can you slip a piece of white tissue paper behind the bottom black piece? Would this help you see the edge? Or maybe if it is the top piece, run a piece of chalk along the cut line to help you see the edge to line it up with the lower piece. I love working with black and know the impact it can have on a quilt. Just look at your cats - they are outstanding! I especially like the twisted tails. Please, take a break and only do a few at a time. There is nothing worse than turning the joyful experience of making a quilt into a dreaded chore.
