I use white vinegar in the "softener" container in my washer. Then run dryer for 10 minutes. Hanging is great then, and the towels don't feel "crunchy"~~

I've been told never to put fabric softener in a towel wash. it makes them less absorbent

I like using line dried towels, too. They exfoliate your skin, stimulate blood flow, skin feels alive!

The same thing that makes sheets on the line so crisp makes the towels stiff. I wonder if the chlorine makes them stiff too? I still prefer line dried towels. I remember my mom starting the summer out with matching "pool towels" , slowly they would disappear into the cars of visiting friends of mine. Maybe QuiltnNan is right, if they don't like it they may bring their own.

He he he....I have also found some very nice beach towels that some have forgotten. I have found that they don't really mind the rough towels that much. I think I was the one that thought I should give them soft towels and have gotten over it...too many towels, just so they are clean and I am fine with that.

When I took them down they were really rough and kind of stiff.

I remember hanging up wet towels on the line when I was young, ( I am 77) and I don't remember them being so rough. What am I doing wrong, because they were not super dirty I washed them in cold water and Gain. Gee, maybe old dogs can still learn from other.
Were you washing them first ? or just hanging them up to dry?
