I put my peas in the ground this week. Hope I can get some before all the deer do. We have a real problem with deer and I have just about given up a garden. They even come right up to the house to munch so that doesn't work well either. We have a "herd" of about 8 that roam around here.

With herbaceous perennials, probably, that die to the ground each fall giving the deer no reason to come near!

Haven't started yet, but will about April 1st...heirloom tomatoes and a couple varieties of melons, plus some lupins and hollyhocks.
Everything else goes straight into the garden (except I buy my seedling peppers as I only need a few plants of those).

Here are pictures I took of my garden this morning. You can also see the skeleton of our new greenhouse.
I started everything from seed except the onions and the collards. Right now we have a lot of peas, green beans, several kinds of peppers, some Cherokee purple tomatoes, zucchini and yellow squash, potatoes, onions, and cantalope.I also have carrots, radishes , roma tomatoes and a little corn. I still have to plant cucumbers and some herbs.
We lucked out this year when we planted early in March. We covered plants two cold nights, but we should be in the clear now! You can see we planted a lot in buckets this year. So far we like the method!

Ditter, can you keep those buckets well-enough watered in your hot Florida sunshine?
I've grown tomato plants in pots larger than that and still cannot keep up with the watering in August - and that's up here in NY! They wind up all wilted by mid-afternoon.

not starting seeds for two more weeks here in KY...not safe for us to plant outside here til May 1st and if I plant earlier they become leggy and weak..BUT I will be starting Ghost Peppers...aka Blut Jolakia...the hottest peppers in the world.they have a SHU rating of 1,001,304...compared to Red Salvina at 248,556 or Orange Habenero at 357,729

No seeds yet, but did find a few packages of bulbs I forgot to plant last fall, they were already sprouting in their bags. So they are now planted. I want to start the seeds, just not ready yet. Planted the strawberry roots, hopefully they do better this year. Still havn't made a veggie garden since we moved.
