would also love to see your quilted blocks, when I made my squares, I did 2 of each, so even tho am putting the first set together without quilting it would be nice to be able to do the 2nd quilt that way, also looking at your Avatar, how did you sew the dolls on? and what did you do with the clothes? I just bought some of that fabric last week. maybe there is another thread for that thought? thanks

Honchey - Thanks for your interest. Keep in mind I am relatively new to quilting, self taught and frankly not that accurate. I just made most of these quilting patterns up or took parts of other quilting patterns. Here are some, just as an example.

I love them!!! The only pieces I have tried to quilt turned out horrible. my stitches are wiggly..I can't get them to go in a straight line even if I do it along a seam. I will try a few blocks reserved for potholders and see how they turn out first. Thanks so much for showing us. :thumbup: :thumbup: Anne

Violet those are fantastic!! Please excuse the silly question (I am after all a senior blonde) but I know you use the batting while doing this but do you have your backing fabric on these? I've done a QAYG and left the backing large then joined it together. I'm wondering if it's possible to quilt just the blocks with sashing and batting , put them all together and then attach the back in one whole piece and then just quilt the sashing strips so the back is quilted to the blocks. I hope I asked this right. Do you think this is possible?

That is exactly what I plan to do. I got the idea from the Dear Jane BOM. Several quilters are doing their Dear Jane Quilt with the backing added after the individual blocks are quilted. Then, like you said, just quilt the sashing and corner stones.
The draw back would be that you wouldn't see all the quilting from the back. But, I am not that good at quilting and really unable to handle a large project, so thought this would work for me. I am thinking of doing 2 twin size quilts with enough blocks left over to do some pillows and weed out the blocks that just didn't turn out so good.

Violet, those blocks are beautiful. I'm ready to put the border on my lap quilt (used the first 54 blocks). I am doing two lap size quilts instead of one large one. One of the reasons is I did not want to work with a huge quilt.

What do you mean your quilting isn't so good????? I'm impressed-I think it looks great. I started as a handquilter and I don't like an all over quilting squiggly design. I like each block quilted and treated individually like you're doing. Wow-I love what you're doing.

OMG Jeanie--you're putting a border on already? I can't wait to see it!! (I don't want to rush you, but I'm excited to see it LOL!!)

I am quilting each block with just the batting only. I cut it 1/2 " bigger than the block to allow for the quilting, then when I'm done I sew the sashing on one side of the block, then trim the batting down to 1/4 '' on each side and then attach the blocks together in one row. Then I turn the row over and iron on the new tape to join the batting edges together. When I have the whole quilt done, then I will add the backing to it and just quilt the sashings. I hope I have explaned this well. I also saw this on the Dear Jane forumn.

I will try to show some quilted blocks, I usually just do straight line quilting. It will be enough to hold everything together.

If anyone want's I will try to show the back, but it will be hard to show when everything is all white, but I will try to take pictures if needed.

what kind of batting are you using? I have thought about doing this... but was under the impression that the stitchs dont have as much resistance, so they are less defined???
