OP here - just too keep you up to date HAHA... I went and go the tree skirt and had DD try it on. I asked her if it would make the perfect pattern for a shoulder quilt. She didn't hear the pattern part and told me "No, this is itchie and scratchy and I don't like the colors". I had to explain what I wanted to do... then she said, why don't you just google poncho patterns and see what you find? Smart Arse she is... and she is only 11 yrs old.

ANyway... it was perfect. emailed my sis and then emailed her some more ideas. She finally decided on the Calypso jacket. She doesn't need it until fall, so I have plenty of time :)

I love this. It is totally me. I think I will move this to the top of my to-do List.

Sounds like a good creative idea to me. As for the crazy? How about you do it in crazy quilt design LOL. Take care.

You will be starting a new trend with such a great idea. Be sure and show the finished product. Shoot, try a reversable tree skirt and you've made it multi purpose.

Sounds very creative to me. Will you use flannel on the back? That would make it warmer and keep it from sliding off her shoulders.

I have seen garments like these - usually worn by men who are picking up coal sacks or such - like, to protect their clothing. Perhaps you could get a pattern from one such industry?

Great Idea!! I would think about adding ribbon as closures.
