You won't believe this. The lady that owns our LQS washes in hot water and drys on the hottest temp on the dryer. Regular detergent. All of her quilts look like they are beautifuly used and have that crinkled old quilt charm.

I am too scared to use hot water and hot dryer.

I've been using Orvus for years for all my laundry, not just quilts. I used to wash them in my old washer but now I take them over to my son's house because he has a new extra large capacity front loader. What I wouldn't give for a new washer>>>sigh

Cold water with a color catcher, dry on medium heat.

I use All FREE (fragrance-free, hypoallergenic) detergent and fabric softener.

I use Ivory Snow (very little) and a Color Catcher, then dry it on low. I was told that other than Orvis, Ivory Snow was the only laundry soap that didn't contain bleach. Don't know it that's true but I unly use Orvis or Ivory.

I wash my quilt with quilt wash. Then I dry it one gentle cycle. It comes out nice.

I wash everything in a Free and Clear Detergent and no fabric softener. Although I am on my first quilt, I will wash it the same way. There are too many people with allergies to detergents and fragrances. I remember one time I washed everything in a detergent I'd gotten in the mail, my son broke out in hives all over and I had to rewash everything I had washed.

I wash on regular cycle with warm water, Tide detergent, Suggle fabric softener and the dry until slightly damp. They smell so good.

I stuff mine into my regular washing machine with some Tide and some OxyClean and wash it on HOT and then throw it in the dryer with a couple of dryer sheets and dry it on HOT. This is just my technique and it works for me. I haven't been disappointed yet and I've made quite a few quilts. No running, no bleeding and they come out so soft and fresh. I love it. AND, I love the vintage look after a good washing. I don't prewash anything, and so far, so good (KNOCK ON WOOD)!!!!
