My son has a lab with terrible ear problms, even after surgery. It is a recipe I'd like him to try.

sorry about your dogs ear problems. I didn't know that there are alot of us with this same problem. We have Shar-Pei and the same ear problems. Cleaning ears at 3am isn't fun.
We changed Vets and the new vet said maybe they had a ball of dried wax way down in the ear canel. So she told us to use Douxo ear wash by Sogeval you have to buy it at Vet and it's $22. for a bottle. You fill the ear with wash and rub base of ear like milking a cow. then let dog shake and wipe with cotton ball. Well gobs of junk came out of the ears. and now we just have to wipe the ears about every 2 days. So this might be a help.
also our little girl is just chewing herself up along with the ears. We will have to give the "Wild Salmon food " a try and see if that helps. Right now we are using the Wild fowl" Thanks kjym Kathy

We had to switch the food we were giving our Cavalier King Charles from Innova to Blue Buffalo because of allergies and terrible shedding. Blue comes in a lot of different flavors but NO GRAIN IN ANY OF IT. Within a week she stopped shedding. (Thank goodness) It is more expensive but we decided they were worth more than that to us. We have now put our Great Pyrenees on it too.

Our vet gave us this recipe: one part white vinegar to one part distilled water; place in plastic squeeze bottle; irrigate ear thoroughly (massage into ear); do not rinse, pat dry only. Do once a day for 5 days. Worked for our Min.Schnauzer.

We have had any number of big, water-loving, floppy-earred dogs over the years and battled the ear infection thing with each and every one of them. Eventually we got smart and we too found that the remedy for a yeast infection is great.

You can even save some $ by getting WalMart's Equate brand which has the very same active medication of the brand-names. That, and regular cleaning with the alcohol/vinegar wipes did the trick and we have had very few infections to treat over the last several years. We found the small, flat make-up pads to be perfect for this, using several for each ear until the wipe would come out clean.

Our vet did everything he could for our little six-year-old terrier mix. Ginger shook her head so much she had a hematoma twice, her ears were smelly and eventually she started licking her paws which he said indicated some type of allergy. He sent us to a vet dermatologist and we found out from the specialist that she was highly allergic to dust mites and storage mites! Since storage mites are in all dry foods she was put on a prescription canned food with rabbit and sweet potato. Now she gets a small slice of sweet potato or cut baby carrots for a treat and she gets a hypoallergenic crunchy treat for her teeth but that's feeding her storage mites so we have to be careful with them. We also give her a shot every week to build her immune system. Her groomer keeps the hair out of her floppy ears and keeps them clean. We had no idea what a serious problem she had; sometimes nothing works because the real source of the problem isn't being treated. Just saying what the problem was for our sweetie's smelly ears... :D

I have labs..One always has ear problems..I agree with the allergy comments...Consider changing...I use science diet brand..Also the best treatment came from our vet..Mix equal parts white vinegar and alcohol...You can swab the ears or after bath time or swimming, lift the ear flap and pour it in the ears...He will sling most of it out...But what stays will work ...The alcohol dries and the vinegar maintains the ph in the ears...
the foot fungus meds work too..They are more drying than the women yeast products...The drying effect is what you want.....
If you flush the ears with the solution, please do it outside.......

I don't know too much about Newfies, but with my cocker spaniel I made sure the the hair around the inside was keep short. And used an ear wash that was blue.

We used Gold Bond powder in our standard poodle's ears - the breeder told us about it. She also was switched to lamb and rice dry food from Costco and people food at all.
