I use kai cutters. The blade is not exposed until you press down on it to cut and it closes up when the pressure is released. The blades are adjustable and sharp. Other cutters that I have been given have not got a safe enough blade closure in my opinion.

I have this cutter and have used it almost daily for years. I routinely cut through up to eight layers at a time. You did not say what you did not like about the cutter so it is hard to say what is wrong. I found that once I started using the cutter a lot it was hard to go back to scissors...I even cut out patterns with my cutter. More details about your experience would be helpful.

I splurged for a 45mm Gingher ergo and absolutely love it! It is patterned in black/red/white so it is easier to identify it at classes as well! My next favorite is my Olfa 45mm ergo!

I personally (after trying several - Olfa, Fiskars, Gingher, etc) use ONLY the Martelli rotary cutters....they are so easy on my hands and wrists........and my control is so much better with them......(e.g. fewer misses and bad cuts)..

I like the Olfa 45 mm ergonomic cutter. It is safe and works well. I also like it because I can buy replacement blades for that one at Harbor Freight. They are about $1 each and that was my deciding factor.

I have small hands and am short. This is the one I prefer, I have more control with it. I have others, but this is the one I use.
