I hate sandwiching too - I think it's because I don't have enough room to set up tables, the bed is too low and it's very hard to like doing something that hurts so much. It's so much easier to send it to the longarmer. My local lady does pantograms waaaay to cheap and I've tried to pay her more but she won't accept. I do quilt baby squilts and lap quilts myself but I don't like it one bit.

I actually don't mind sandwiching with pins or Elmer's Glue. However, I MUCH prefer the actual quilting when I have glue basted. I hate removing the pins as I go and I particularly hate dodging them.

Basting the quilt up is my least favorite part too. It's so hard to find space! I use my living room floor (which is a faux wood laminate) - after I push most of my furniture away I have enough space to do up about a queen sized quilt. I bought knee pads just for that purpose! But now I need a new King size for my bed and I have nowhere to put it together! I've tried basting on the bed itself but I can't get anything tight and end up with puckers all over the back when I do that. I will "wall-baste" sometimes too but that's such a hassle and the top end always ends up better than the bottom and not enough room to do a king size there anyway.

I need to join a guild, just so I can get some access to larger space! The local guild here meets at the local Veteran's building - TONS of floor space there!

I hate this part of quilting too! I even bought a short-arm which takes up most of my rec. room, and still don't like it any better. I hate to pay someone to quilt my quilts for me, but it is worth it, otherwise I'll ruin my quilt tops trying to quilt it.

Well, I certainly have good company with my wine. Cheers everyone! Just in time for New Year. Thanks everyone. Your comments made my task less unpleasant and gave me a nudge. I bought a couple of boards at Home Depot. I still need to cover them with flannel. I have Elmer's Glue. So I'll warm up that glue a bit when I have the boards and sandwich ready and then by darn, that little lap quilt will be Elmered.(I'm willing to give Elmer another go). Happy New Year!

I keep seeing the "board method" mentioned for sandwiching. What is it? I'm new to this and am still piecing my first top so I don't understand all the terms yet.
