Each block is trimmed with a square to 1/4" to the outside of the curved piece. That is done to get the curvy flow from one block to the next. Here's a blog that has a better picture that maybe explains it - even though it's for a different size, the technique is the same.

Please let me know if you have questions!

Let me see if i can find a pic for illustration purposes...

This is a gorgeous rendition of the Drunkards Path.
I misstated on my original post - i bought the pattern from Carolina Cotton but the designer info is 'The Wave' by The Sweet Tea Girls Patterns
I did a quick google search with that info and it's available on Quilter's Warehouse website, among others.

My apologies for not giving the correct info up front!

    This is for Geri

So here's a mock up picture - in the real world the 2 pieces would be sewn together, then place your square up ruler 1/4" from the curved edges:

Then trim both sides - the pink sides. When you sew your blocks together, you are in theory sewing on the curved edge at the outer most edge of the block. The other layout I did first when I found about this 'method' was this wall hanging: http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...g-t261036.html (again NOT an original layout )
there are many options for using these curvy blocks - make a few and have fun!
