We have several TVs and converter boxes. Comcast is such a ripoff, but the others are, too. We had AT&T internet, phone & cable, but now just internet. We tried to get Dish but would have to cut down a tree on the west side of the house (are they nuts??? it keeps the sun off that side in the PM!!!) Then we were all set for Direct TV when they ran their special, but when they were ready to install they told us about the additional charges because we didn't register online 24 hours before the install date. We both blew up! After talking to 4 or 5 people to get the bill straightened out, speaking to nobody who spoke clear English, (the accents were so strong I couldnt understand them) we finally said CANCEL.

When we first got boxes we got about 20 channels, locals and others. After a year or more, we get less and less channels, or they pixel out while we are watching so sometimes we just turn them off. The only tv that consistantly gives us lots of channels is the one in the loft in my sewing room. It belonged to our ex-son in law, and has to be 20years old! Pictures clear and we get 5 Ion channels, 5, sometimes 6 PBS, the 5 or 6 local broadcast affiliates and some we don't know which planet they come from.

like most of you, its background noise, but I get really mad when we are in the middle of a show and the channel just disappears, usually in the last 8 minutes!

I have written FCC several times but have not gotten an answer from them or the TV stations on how long before they make us totally dependent on being wired up & connected.

Hogwash!

We havn't watched television in 16 years, not even the news. We do have a "TV" to watch videos and DVD's but when it just me and DH we watch about 1 movie every 3 mos.
There are so many better things to do than sit and watch the "tube"
My kids were raised with out television. It was hard to convince their teachers that they don't watch TV and had to sometimes put together alternate assignments for them to do instead of watching a certain show. We are HUGE into reading and used to read to them EVERY night. They loved it.
Now that they are mostly out of the house they still watch hardly any TV. Mostly cause their DH's want to watch a little.

Our flat screen in the living room went out about 2 months ago. We have a small HD set in the bedroom if we feel a need to watch. When the flat screen went out, I just figured that I'd go crazy, but I didn't...I have CDs that i like to listen to, and a really good oldies station on the radio. I've gotten so used to the quiet that some days the only noise in the house is me talking to the cats and dog!

When DH had to go into a nursing home- cable TV was the first thing I cut out. Don't miss it at all! LOL just spend more time on the computer.

I didn't read through all of these comments, but I did see a mention of Netflix! I love it!! Between that and online tv shows, I'm pretty set! I even have a setup where my computer connects to my tv!!! To me, that's better than cable!

I could easily do without TV. I usually just watch the news and weather. But hubs would die without westerns and Nascar!

My DH watches the races and poker games. More entertaining to watch paint dry.

There is no way I'd pay for cable, no way! I watch so little TV anymore, and nothing regularly... why should I pay for all the other stuff, including (and most people don't realize this) for the porno and other dubiuous programming? Besides, when I do watch, I get tired of having to constantly readjust my arial because the satellite has moved or the weather's bad, or whatever reason they feed us for the bad reception. And now we learn that there's a 'loose' satellite possibly threatening to take out our TV satellites. How's that for service?
